Workshop Descriptions

Healing Sounds -- with Judy Piazza

Explore dimensions of sound used for healing by indigenous people throughout history in many cultures of the world.

Use of voice, rhythms, and timbrel qualities of various hand instruments will be experienced, with the elements of Earth, Air, Fire, and Water expressed through sound. We'll explore the potential of the voice to effect our health on all levels, learn simple ways of opening the voice up to its full power, and connect our exploration of elemental sounds to movement, dance, and expression through the body.

Come with an openness to experience the beauty and power of sound in unique and uplifting ways ... you will leave a changed person.

Bring hand percussion instruments such as rattles, bells, singing bowls, clave, etc.

Tribal Dance -- with Suzanne Gerard and Gaiananda

Tribal Belly Dance is a fusion of dances from many cultures including East Indian, North African, Middle Eastern, Flamenco and Gypsy dances. It is danced in a group and the movements are based on a series of improvisational cues.

Class participants will learn form and style, specific Tribal dance movements and how to perform these dances as a cohesive group. You will learn how to use the groupÕs collective movement and intuition to cue or follow and the importance of using spatial relationships to transition in and out of group formations.

All levels, beginning to advanced welcome and encouraged.

Dancing will be done to Middle Eastern rhythms. Drummers interested in drumming for the dancers will be honored, although they should have a Basic knowledge of common Middle Eastern rhythms, or can pick up and hold new rhythms quickly.

Bring a full skirt and a hip belt if you have them. A limited number will be provided.
